The Police in Kano have confirmed the death of five
persons, including two female suicide bombers, in
an explosion which occurred at the GSM Market
located at Farm Centre in Kano metropolis, on
Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr
Muhammad Katsina however confirmed five people
dead while briefing newsmen in Kano.
Katsina also said that eight other persons sustained
injuries during the incident which happened around
4.30 p.m.
According to him, the incident happened when a
Sharon space Wagon vehicle arrived at the market
with six passengers and dropped two females at the
market.
He said soon after the suspects alighted from the
vehicle, the suspects entered the GSM market
through different gates and detonated the bomb.
On Tuesday night, a similar bomb explosion killed
34 people and injured 80 in a night market in Yola,
Adamawa state.
This is coming barely 24 hours after over 30
people were confirmed dead in an explosion that
rocked Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
Reports have it that security operatives have
arrived the scene of the popular market and
have cordoned off the area as residents are still
in panic following the new development.
Exactly a year ago, there was also a report of
the populous town being rocked by a bomb blast,
also inside a market.
Alhaji Muhammed Katsina, the state
commissioner of police was also sighted at the
scene of the blast and has vowed to bring the
perpetrators of the crime to justice.
According to Premium Times, a witness said the
first explosion occurred at the market entrance
while the second device exploded near a pavilion
in the centre of the market.
The witness informed further that two vans filled
with victims were driven away from the scenes
of the explosions, adding that a teenage suicide
bomber is believed to be behind one of the
explosions.
While an elderly suicide bomber ferried the
second device right into the centre of the
market.
A detached human leg, believed to belong to the
teenage suicide bomber, was also sighted near
the gate of the market, which was filled to
capacity at the time of the incident.
