CBN REGAINS STOLEN FUNDS

The presidency has confirmed public funds
stolen by officials of past administrations are
being returned to the government coffers
through the Central Bank Of Nigeria.
Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of Finance,
speaking in Abuja on Friday at the convergence
of the Federation Accounts Allocation
Committee, said the looted funds are being
returned through the CBN, and only the bank
could speak on the procedure and actual
figures.

President Buhari is yet to issue a directive on
how to handle the money. It is not yet known if
the recovered loot had been lodged into the
federation account to be shared by the three
tiers of government, or if it was still in a
separate government account.
Contacted by Sunday Punch on Saturday, Femi
Adesina, President Buhari’s assistant on media,
confirmed the development. He added Buhari is
yet to make a declaration of whether to
prosecute the government officials who
returned the money voluntarily.
Buhari, while on working visit to Iran, said
certain ex-governmnent officials were returning
public funds they stole, but did not disclose their
identities or sums. The failure to divulge
specifics led many to doubt the veracity of
Buhari’s claim.
